"John's Corner" Tips From AIS' Technical Support Expert, John Modglin:
In this edition... what is the difference between an indoor and outdoor controller? Differences vary depending upon make and model, but some basic features are easy to check by visual examination:
Most indoor controllers utilize external transformers that are remote from the controller... plugging direct to an electrical outlet
- An outdoor controller will have the transformer inside a gasket-sealed enclosure or cabinet... these units use a "pigtail" to connect to an outlet or are "hard wired" directly to an electrical supply
- A cabinet with key-lock door is also a good indicator that the controller may be suitable for an outdoor location
